A Little Obsessed

I can't stop making these bows and headbands for my girls. I found these headbands at The Dollar Tree. 8 for $1. And $.29 for a sheet of felt at Michael's. They are very girly but not over the top and too big. I am also obsessed because they are so easy. Heavy thread and a glue gun get it done.

So adorable, like I said obsessed.

Holidays Are Over

Now that the Holidays are officially over and I now have no excuse since my baby is 4 months old it is time to kick it into high gear. While I was still pregnant I saw these classes and wanted to try them so bad. Thanks to my mom and dad I got 10 classes for my birthday. I was so excited to try them out. Let's just said it is such a hard workout. You do not need to know ballet to do it-it is just straight up hard. My legs are dead midway through the class. It is just intense repetitions using the ballet barre, weights, bands and a ball. I highly recommend it if you need a good toning class. I am off to my 3rd class tonight, I am just praying that my legs stop shaking after a couple more classes!

I went back and forth on what to give to Camryn's teachers and my friends. I always end up making cookies. But this year I at least spiced it up a bit. I am in love whoopie pies and thought of doing Red Velvet to make them more Christmasy.

They are delicious and so easy when you make them with a cake mix. Three ingredients, butter, cake mix and eggs.

Then I just added crushed candy cane around the edge of the cream cheese frosting.

I found this printable on pinterest here. It took a while to get the spacing right on the bag and 15 crumpled bags later I had a cute finished product. So excited to give my treats out this year as opposed to the plastic wrap paper plate look. Merry Christmas!

I have just been in craft mode these days and when I find a little inspiration it makes it so easy for me to take off with it. Lucky for me, my friends and I had a craft night to help me get started on my projects. I had seen this garland on Pinterest and knew I needed it. Well after seeing that felt balls cost close to $25 for 100 I nixed that idea and thought about pom poms.

All I needed was a large needle, thin crochet yarn, and 5 bags of pom poms (we have a 7 foot tree). They have a lot of colors to choose from at Michaels but I thought this mixed bag worked well with our tree. And instead of $25 per 100, they were $2.79. Much more like it. So it turned out to be close to $17 for the whole thing.

So much like my last tutorial I just strung the pom poms on in the patterned I liked. This time was much easier though since I didn't have to tie knots to make them evenly spaced. The pom poms are just hard enough that they will stay pretty well without knots. Unless you have young kids that you know are going to be pulling on it. Happened once when my daughter got mad and yanked the garland off the tree on the way to time out-no biggie though I just pulled them apart again.

I tried to make a line as long as possible stringing to the middle as far as I could pull without getting it tangled. Then I would change the needle to the other side and go toward the middle again. This made it so much faster then trying to string all the way to the end of the yarn.

I love the way it turned out. We went the inexpensive route this year since we won't even be here for Christmas and got a douglas fir which aren't my favorite. However, with the added garland it gave the tree just right amount of character. I can't wait to use this year after year.

New Adventure for Twigg

This weekend we are off to the Orange County Swap Meet. I am excited to try this out and see what all the hype is about. I have never been to the OC Swap Meet, but from what I here it is like no other swap meet. I guess that is Orange County for you. I am hoping to clear through a bunch of inventory to make room for winter and spring trends. So if you are in the area stop by between 7-4 on Saturday. My prices will be cut and deals will be flying! Wish us luck as there is a lot do before our big day.

Elf Gender Change

If you know my daughter she is all girl. She is constantly asking if things are for boys or girls. If they are for boys she won't have anything to do with it. This year I knew I was so excited to do The Elf on the Shelf Tradition, but once I saw there were only skin color options (which is awkward in and of itself) I knew I needed to make some additions.

With felt I already had I made a ball on the end of the hat, bow, buttons and skirt to match the collar. Such an easy makeover and I think it makes her so cute. Now we won't have to sell the fact that the elf is a girl, she will clearly be able to tell.

Shipped Out

I love Click & Ship. It is my new best friend. Before I had 2 kids it was no problem running to the Post Office. Now I don't even know what I would do with out my beloved postage scale, computer and the man that comes to my door to take these away. Cyber Monday was not stressful-just fun.

Ornament Garland Tutorial

I have a ton of craft ideas on mind this Christmas season. Too many. In such a small space that we call home, I find myself needing to scale back. But I knew that the mantle needed a little more spice. One trip to Target for a little inspiration was all I needed.

I love an easy craft and boy was this one easy. So easy my 3 year pretty much did it on her own.

All you need dollar ornaments from Target-you know the ones (I bought 2), tape, scissors and some sort of string of yarn. I just used what I had laying around.

And a handy helper of course

She loved figuring out the pattern of what one came next and stringing them on one by one.

I just wrapped the end of the yarn to make it easier to thread on and it became like a simple sewing project for kids.

Once you get them on figure out the desired spacing and tie a knot. I made sure to cut a long piece of yarn at the beginning and knew I could cut off the remaining at the end.

And that is it! I love a craft that takes less than an hour to complete.

Hope you try it out yourselves-I would love to try an assorted colored one next time!

I got such great feedback on the last post where I asked your opinion and you are my consumers, so I thought it only appropriate to ask again. I love a good trend and right now there are some really fun styles. Whether they last for years or just another couple seasons-these styles are totally worth it. So cast your vote and tell me which shoe you think I should add to my collection.

Oxford Wedge-It took me awhile to catch on to the oxford shoe for women; I always liked them on others, but was too scared to wear it myself. I have loved how they have merged into classic shoe styles. This oxford wedge I can imagine wearing with so many outfits. Thoughts?

Double-Wrap Peacock Wedge-I am a sucker for this color, especially for the fall and winter. I think it has classic enough lines that you can pull off something formal, but is still casual enough for every day wear-especially the working girl.

Braided Pump-If you know me, you'll know that these should already be in my closet-I just can't decide on the color. My husband likes this color and I like the rust below...HELP!

Zig Zag Flat-Definitely a trend right now, but I think the colors and pattern are awesome and will stick around for awhile. Mom of two, I can't have enough flats. You have to see these on your feet they look a million times better than this blurry photo.

My New Do

Yup I finally did it! I have been talking about going dark for years and I finally pulled the trigger. And yes, this is dark for me. I was going for a more golden blonde with more of my natural color for the fall and winter. We definitely achieved a more natural color but not so much golden blonde. So not exactly what I wanted but I still like the change. And should be so low maintenance which is great for my current stage of life. What do you think? Definitely taking some getting used to.

Don't Lay a Finger...

On My Butterfinger...

That is right I made homemade butterfingers. Minus the perfect crunch that makes a butterfinger a butterfinger-that taste is spot on. I made them last night and let's just say I need to LAY off! Here is the recipe for all of you that want to try it yourselves-it is so easy and delicious. I tried it with milk chocolate and semi-sweet and I have to say I liked the semi-sweet. They tasted like a cross between a Reisen and Butterfinger. I also made mine a little thinner so the ratio of peanut butter/candy corn to chocolate was larger. With all the candy corn laying around it is a perfect Halloween treat. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do-definitley not helping with baby weight!

Gettin' Crafty

As I mentioned earlier, now that I feel like I actually may survive two kids and the fact that I'm in baby prison still a little-I've been craftin' it up. I DO NOT consider myself a crafty person, but with the heroin addiction that is Pinterest, how can you not get the bug. I took an idea and then put my own twist on it. We needed a pillow that tied in my oldest daughters bed with the baby bedding and crib we currently had.

I just used a pillow I already had, sewed a peach cover with fabric I had used for the chandelier cord cover and free handed some felt trees that I tacked and hand stitched on. I think it worked out pretty well and all with materials I already had. Not sure when and what the next project will be, but I'm sure with the cooler weather (well for CA), holidays and multiple children I will find a few more things make.

I am so sad to see these beauties go! They were one of my favorite shoes from last year's fall line. I only have one pair left and sadly it is a size 11. I sure wish it was 7 or anything close to that. I would make my foot fit in whatever size, but 11 is a bit of a stretch for me. If you are between a 10 & 11 or know any one that is let me know, you will not be disappointed. Even if that means you have to stick a little moleskin back there to make them work!

Halloween DIYs

It has been 6 weeks since having my baby and I have been dying to get crafting again. Let's just say with 2 girls that has been nothing short of challenging! With Halloween just around the corner I forced myself to get going. I found these cute ideas from my friend Megan's blog The Thirteenth and then put my own twist on it. Thanks for the ideas Megan. I was having a hard time deciding what to make but these ended up being so cute, easy & cheap. All things I love!

With the leftover bats I threw them on here to tie it all in. I am still planning to make some hanging bats over my front door and a wreath. Let's just hope it is not the day before Halloween when that actually happens.

So I was extremely excited to get these two new pairs of Twigglets posted that I couldn't wait for professional shots. Unfortunately the weird angle and instagram filter gave my daughter freaky shaved man legs. Here are the real shots (compliments of Kristy Dunning). These moccasins are pretty much the cutest things you've ever seen. I've been loving the native american inspired colors and patterns, and they are perfect for fall. Again, sorry if I grossed anyone out or confused you-these are for toddlers and not strangers that offer your kids suspicious candy.

Oh Capri...

My husband and I have had numerous arguments about this controversial pant. He can't stand them. He thinks they are an indecisive article of clothing, "...be a pant or be a short...don't try and be both. They just look like high-waters and give everyone cankles."

Well he must have seen a celebrity in a pair of fitted capris or something (probably Carrie Underwood)...because he bought me this little number from Forever 21. He obviously prefers I wear heels with anything...even pajamas, but these actually look pretty great with flats too. I was six months pregnant when we took this shot-couldn't find a real model in a short amount of time. They don't fit right now (over 7 months preggo), but they are such a nice transitional pant when it's warm outside but not quite "short" weather, yet you still want some breathing room. Best of all I think they were like $15 or $20...I always check receipts-kind of a Kate Goseling thing I guess, but I don't yell or have a haircut that looks like the back of my head exploded so I have that going for me.

The first step is admitting you have a problem! I confess to you all-I am addicted to using exclamation points! I use them all over my blog posts, e-mails and text messages. The funny thing is I am not that animated in real life. I don't know why, if someone asks me to go to lunch over text I feel the need to text-SURE! I could just say-sure that would be great. Now I feel like it's rude to not use them, but then when I read the text back I see that I have used one after every sentence!!! I have now joined EA (Exclamations Anonymous)-okay I made that up, but I am hoping there are other exclamation junkies out there to0, and it is not just me!

Here is my goal-to drastically reduce the amount of exclamtion points in my daily messaging-unless it's about new shoes because that IS exciting!!! Sorry, I just have to get out a few more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My husband called me out on this and now I am going to try "up" my writing skills. So for all you exclamation abusers out there-let's do this!!!

While shopping for shoes is absolutely my favorite part of this job-not my husbands as we have zero space in our closet for another pair of shoes and I am taking over his side-it is also the most difficult. Trying to find styles that appeal to the masses yet still have originality is so difficult. I constantly get e-mails about when I'm going to have a certain style or if I carry such-and-such style. It was the braided strap that sold me on this particular sandal. These have the perfect thickness of strap and again will go with so many different styles. I didn't think I'd ever love braided leather after the 90's, but here I am in love again.

Patent Leather Peep Toe

I have had more than one request for a nude patent leather heel, but really I think any of these colors are timeless and sexy. For those women out there doin' us proud in the work force-these will get you some good mileage. For you who just always wear heels-way to go! And for the mom's that have an occasional date night (never enough of those) or just need some Sunday Best-I love these.

As soon as it warms up all we want to do is spend every second outside. I'll eat breakfast, lunch and dinner outside if possible. When you're in a small space it can be difficult to really make it feel inviting and spacious. We still have some more to do, but I had to take a picture of these finds. I think everything that has to do with Spring and Summer should be bright and festive.

The chairs are slightly larger than we'd like for the scale of the table, but it's fun to go outside of buying standard patio sets and mix it up a little.

I love the little votives-fun romantic lighting in the evening even makes box mac and cheese seem delicious.

Just got back from a little vacation where shoes were not required at anytime. Although I love to put on a good pair of shoes sometimes it's time to just get a pedicure and celebrate your feet. They are nice and rested so now it's back to work. I have some exciting new stuff coming up so stay tuned. But for now-have a barefoot day and pamper your feet!

My husband wanted some "cool" jean shorts. I wasn't sure they existed, as flash backs of the early nineties came flooding back. I was looking at Urban Outfitters and I have to say that we saw the shorts in the store and they looked great, but when I went online I was kind of grossed out. I think I don't entirely understand this new "I'm natural but disgusting" look they are trying to acheive. I think the phrase, "You are the only person who can pull that off" really is just a nice way of saying, "Hey those are ugly clothes, but I like you as person so don't be mad at me okay?" I thouhgt I'd attach some of these online shots:

This guy got paid for this. I don't like guys with shaved legs, but come on now. I didn't know you could actually perm your leg hair?

I am all about new and eclectic styles, but really? Sometimes Urban is just weird. Since when to 3 versions of washed out flesh tones and ill fitted clothing look good? However she does have shaved legs and nice hair so I'll give her that.

Pretty Little Things...

What is it about some items that just make you feel like a little girl again? These new "old fashion" perfume bottles from IKEA brought out this feeling in me. I saw them and snatched them up without even looking at the price ($12.95 for the set of 3). You can't help but feel a little bit glamorous when putting on perfume with an atomizer (confession-I looked up this word, it sounds so much more fancy than spray-bulb-thingy). I even gave this picture a little antique look so you can sense the old Hollywood Glam. Love em!

It's KNOT just a bracelet...

Extremely cheesy title I know, but I couldn't resist. It doesn't even really make sense since it really is just a bracelet. Anyway the point is that though I like doing crafts and I am constantly surrounded by extremely crafty and inspiring friends sometime it's nice to find a $5 bracelet that could be made at home, but isn't. I am sure many of you could make this and probably do a better job, but I love this cheap little find. I love how a simple accessory can make me feel like my outfit is complete. I can wear the same thing over and over, but when I add this little and simple number somehow I feel "ready"...maybe even cute at times. If you're loving it, it can be found at H&M. If anyone makes one I would love to see the results...maybe even invite me over for a craft night.

A Little Birdie Told Me

Like affordable fashion, I am a sucker for affordable home decor-well any bargain really. I have been inspired by Spring. I don't consider myself a crafty individual, but some girls were getting together to make some spring door wreaths and I thought I'd stop by and try my hand at a new craft. On my little nature walk over to my friends house I found a few twigs on the ground that I tried to experiment with. Here are the results-I wasn't sure about the bedazzled bird, but I was talked into it by the girls:

All it takes is an affordable wreath of your liking from any craft store, felt, yarn (I went with this speckled yarn to give it a woodsy look), and whatever decorations inspire you. Sometimes You Gotta Splurge

So it's tax return season and though we probably are still in the hole somehow, it feels as though we get "free" money. What I want to know is what you splurge on? We try and be frugal throughout the year, but do you have those certain items you just have to have even though you know it's probably too much? Here are a couple of items that I LOVE and though there are less expensive versions out there, I just have to have it. So tell me, with your tax return money in hand-what are you going to stock up on?

Burt's Bees. I probably buy 5 to 10 of these a year. My husband always gets mad when I lose them, but nothing works or feels the same.

I don't know what kind of magical concoction are in these things, but something about the smell makes it worth the price. I don't care where you search, you won't find a better scent.

It could be the packaging, the marketing, but really I think it's the quality. I try and hold out as long as possible without it, but it's something you just gotta have.

Your complexion and coloring determines which colors work best on you. Take careful analysis of your skin tone, natural hair color and eye color. To help find the undertone color of your skin, look at the inside of your arm in natural daylight. Then, with the help of the list below, decide which season most accurately describes your complexion. Once you know your season, you will have a personalized guideline of colors and shades that work best for you.

Winter

Winter is a cool tone. People with winter complexions have blue or pink/rosy undertones. Skin can be pale and porcelain white, yellowish-olive, or dark. Winters are generally brunettes with deeply colored eyes. Many Asians and African Americans fall into this category. Natural white-blonds may also be winters.

Best Colors for Winter

Those with the winter color profile have a lot of depth to their coloring and a lot of contrast between their hair color, eye color and skin tone. Winters should wear hues that are sharp, stark and clear. You will look best in intense, rich colors, like black, navy blue, red, and hot pink. These powerful shades will compliment your coloring. For lighter colors, wear bright white or icy pastels, such as like cool blues, pinks and yellows.
Worst Colors for Winter

Avoid dressing in earthy tones and subdued colors like beige, orange and gold. They will make you look faded and ashen.

Summer

Summer is also a cool tone and like winter complexions, the summers among us have blue or pink undertones. Skin is very pale and pink. Summer coloring usually occurs in natural blonds, and even pale-skinned brunettes with pale eyes. If you’re a trying to discriminate between winter and summer, winters are usually brunettes and summers are mostly natural blonds.

Best Colors for Summer

Summers have a low level of contrast between their hair, eye color and skin tone. For you to look your best, choose soft neutrals and pastels, as well as muted colors with cool undertones. Powder blue, dusty pink, mauve, lavender, plum, and pale yellow are all great color choices.

Worst Colors for Summer

Avoid intense, vivid hues because they will look harsh and drown you out. Nor should you wear earth tones. Stay away from black and orange.

Autumn

Autumn is a warm tone and people with this complexion have golden undertones in their skin, like a pale peach, golden beige or golden brown. Many redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes fall into this category. However, golden blond and black hair coloring can also fall into this range.

Best Colors for Autumn

You have a lot of depth to your coloring and skin tone. Rich golden, spicy and earthy colors will accent your complexion. Therefore, look for a warm undertone when selecting a color. You can wear both muted and rich warm colors that are seen in autumn leaves and spice colors, such as camel, beige, olive, orange, gold, and dark brown. You will also look great in a rich warm grey.

Worst Colors for Autumn

Stay away from clear, bright colors and black and white, which will make your look tired and faded. Also steer clear of pastels and blue tones, which will look cold against your complexion and give you a pale appearance.

Spring

Spring is also a warm tone. People of this complexion have subtle golden undertones and are usually creamy white or peach. Springs have extremely light, ivory skin color. People of this coloring are usually natural golden blonds, auburn, or strawberry blond redheads. Springs also have very clear, light blue and green coloured eyes. Freckles and rosy cheeks are also characteristics of this group.

If you can’t decide weather you are an autumn or a spring, springs tend to have pale eyes while autumns have dark eyes.

Best Colors for Spring

Springs can wear very pale, soft colors, such as peach, camel, golden yellow,golden brown, and aqua. You will also look fabulous in ivory, bright greens, true reds, clear blues and coral.

Your colors may be particularly hard to find because they can never be too muted or too dark.

Worst Colors for Spring

Avoid black and white, which are too contrasting for you. Also stay away from dark, dull colors.

World Shoe & Accessories Convention in Vegas

Level 1 of 3 of the WSA--my feet started hurting just thinking about all the floors; yet they were already drooling (feet do that, some call it sweat) at all the amazing new styles.

This year's shoe convention, WSA-It Pays to Think Inside the Box, was amazing. Not only is it amazing to see all the new styles of shoes, but just the amount of work, creativity, and effort that goes into these trade show booths is inspiring.

One thing is for sure, you don't want to be wearing any of these sexy shoes below the day of the convention; I would actually recommend some type of orthopedic/athletic shoe. After 3 stories of nothing but shoes at the Mandalay Bay, I'm surprised I still have feet.

This year's theme--catchy don't you think?

Taking last year's style and giving it some depth--can't go wrong here.

We saw this sandal in quite a few places--I love the color and movement

So we've toyed with the idea of starting a little girls line--this definitely increased our desire--Can we say Twigglets? What mom doesn't want her daughter wearing these little sandals?!

The clog sandals! Earthy leather and wood soles give a boho vibe, but the platform and super-high heel up the sex appeal.

Let's just say we learned a lot and are super excited for this upcoming year and all the new fashions!

The Rules on Jewels

Flats have come a long way from their orthopedic ancestors. We love that People Style Watch (one of our Bibles) feels the same way. When we saw this jeweled flat we exhausted our resources to find it. With a little help from the style gods, we bring this Style Watch favorite to you. First Post & FAQ's

For our first post, we think it would most appropriate to start by answering some of the most common questions we get asked about our company or hosting a party:

1. The biggest question is, "Is this your company or part of a pyramid scheme?"

Answer: This is OUR thing! We have a passion for shoes; it's that simple. We are not interested in making millions of dollars in a weeks time or driving around pink Cadillacs. We're interested in shoes and want to share affordable style with other Recesionistas (Fashionistas on a budget because of the recession in case you were wondering about the term).

2. Do I have to DO anything for the party?

Answer: Nope, well except invite your friends. There is never any pressure to buy. It's just a girls night. We will send you invitatons and you tell your friends. Then just make some snacks or have your friends bring them, hang out, chat and try on shoes!

3. What if I don't live in Southern California? Do you travel out of state?

Answer: We are a very small business, so most of our parties will be in Southern California. We started a website so we could share the wealth with everyone, because unfortunately it doesn't always make sense for us to drive 500 miles to sell one pair of shoes-though we'd love to. If we can get a few parties booked in one location and it makes financial sense--we'll be there! We are planning on heading to AZ the 4th week in Feb--if you are a "Zoni" and you love shoes, book a date! We will be headed to Vegas and Utah soon as well so stay tuned!

4. Do you design your own shoes?

Answer: We wish we were that good. We are buyers not designers. What we love to do is check out shoe vendors all over the nation and find the best styles and sell them to you for a great price!

5. What happens if you don't have my size? Can you special order it?

Answer: We order the shoes in what they call "runs". Each run comes with a certain number of each size--once we're out, we're out. We can reorder another run, but we only do that if we can tell we will be able to sell out of another run. (Which we've done--check out the Snake Skin Peep Toe--they look good on EVERYONE).

Tip: If you want it, get it while it's hot.

6. Do I get the shoes at the party or just order them there?

Answer: We bring ALL our inventory with us. Who doesn't love instant gratification?

7. How do you keep them so affordable?

Answer: Magic. Just kidding. Like we said, we're not here to make millions, just enough to keep our shoe addiction fed. We buy them direct like any other shoe store, but our store front is either your living room or the web--both incredible places to do business. By cutting out all that overhead, we can keep costs where they should be--affordable.
